Close your eyes and picture the smell of fresh bread wafting under your nose. Is your mouth watering yet?
There is nothing...nothing...I repeat nothing like a freshly baked loaf of bread. Make that sourdough and just try to refrain from eating it in entirety.
Sourdough is a tricky little thing. It takes time and patience and dedication. You need a starter (for mine a packet of Gold Coast Sourdough from California - a gift from my mother), get it going and feed it as recommended in the directions. The longer you have your feed or mother and tend to it, the better and more sour it can develop. Mine is still young and I'm finding that I need to tweak the amount of yeast. This is the 3rd try and 2x the recommended yeast. This one actually isn't dense and rose nicely.
There are many great bread recipes out there. Most people will stray away from sourdough since it takes time and constant attention. I say brave the journey and you won't be disappointed!
Shopping List:
1 sourdough starter packet
unbleached flour
yeast

And what should you do when you have herbs in the
fridge that need to be used up? Chop them up and add them into your next creation!
This is a sage, honey and olive oil loaf. I simply chopped up about a few table spoons of fresh sage, 1/4 cup honey and 1/4 cup olive oil. Just before I put it in the oven, I sprinkled the top with some flake sea salt.
My plan? Keep trying new versions! Perfect for company and for conversation.
